Review by Sheryll Steele-Boyce, Publisher
Australian BirdKeeper Magazine

This fascinating international documentary was originally broadcast as part of the BBC Natural History Series profiles parrots in captivity and in the wild.
Footage explores what makes parrots so attractive as pets—their bright colours, curiosity, intelligence, affection and beauty.
As a pet subject, various parrot species including Grey Parrots and Budgerigars present some humorous examples of their ability to mimic, learn and speak. Such endearing personalities support the attractiveness and appeal of many species as great companions.

On the serious side, the poignant topic of mental torture due to handreared and human imprinted birds not being provided with enrichment or stimulation in captivity is most thought-provoking.

The wild habits and antics of over 300 parrot species are captured—macaws, Eclectus, cockatoos, Amazons, lorikeets, Keas and more.

Included in some rare footage are the socialisation techniques and feeding habits of these species. Quaker Parrots burrow into Jabiru nests to establish their own nesting hole, Hyacinthine Macaws feed on palm nuts, Blue-headed Amazons feed on mineral clay cliffs and Grey Parrots feed on salt tolerant plants which provide essential minerals. These are but a few examples of the delights this armchair travel highlights.

This DVD has universal appeal for all the family.
